Global slowdown puts brakes on Asian auto sector in 2009

Asia’s auto industry faces a dramatic slowdown in 2009 as the global financial crisis puts the brakes on sales, with Japan and Korea hit hard by weakening demand in the United States and Europe. The region’s car industry has boomed in recent years as the newly affluent middle-classes snapped up vehicles that have clogged the streets of capitals from Bangkok to New Delhi. But the threat of recession, together with plummeting consumer confidence and the global credit crunch, which has made it difficult to obtain new vehicle loans, has seen gloomy forecasts posted for 2009. ‘The industry is in crisis mode across the world,’ said Ashvin Chotai, managing director of Intelligence Automotive Asia. ‘I’m expecting about an 11.8 per cent decline in 2009 in all Asia for light vehicle sales. That is an incredible decline, probably on a scale worse than the sort seen during the Asian crisis.’ Chotai said that during the 1997-98 regional financial meltdown, China and India – which are now huge car markets – were not substantially affected. ‘But this year what is incredible is there’s hardly any country in the world that’s going to grow in auto sales,’ he said. While domestic sales are down right across the region, the major exporting nations will bear a double burden. ‘The maximum impact will be on Japan and Korea because they export a large number of cars to the US and Europe,’ said Vivek Vaidya, automotive analyst at consulting firm Frost & Sullivan. Japan’s production plunged a record 25.2 per cent in December, the steepest decline since records began in 1967. New vehicle sales slumped to the lowest level in three decades in 2008 with a 6.5 per cent drop to 3.2 million units. ‘It is a very serious situation,’ said Takeshi Fushimi, director of the Japan Automobile Dealers’ Association. ‘In the throes of a kind of economic slump that occurs once in a century, consumers’ sentiment has rapidly cooled.’ The association predicted domestic sales would keep slipping, with a 2009 target of slightly more than three million units, as young people continue to shun cars due to low wages, high fuel costs and good public transport. Japanese carmakers went into the crisis in better shape than their US rivals, but have nevertheless been forced to slash production. Toyota overtook General Motors to become the world’s top automaker last year, but only because the Detroit giant’s sales fell faster than its own. It has forecast its first-ever operating loss for the financial year to March. In Korea, domestic sales fell 5.3 per cent in 2008 and exports were down 5.7 per cent. For 2009, the Korea Automobile Manufacturers’ Association expects exports to fall 5.6 per cent and domestic sales to drop 8.7 per cent. To offset the decline, automakers have cut production, delayed new investment to secure cash reserves and launched cost-saving drives. In December, automakers shut down factories for up to three weeks to reduce inventories. Chinese-owned Ssangyong Motor applied for receivership to avoid bankruptcy and closed its plant indefinitely. ‘The outlook for Japanese production is pretty bad.... Korea is a big exporter and also very vulnerable,’ said Chotai. ‘We expect further huge cuts in production in both these countries.’ Australia is braced for a 13 per cent decline in new vehicle sales for 2009, after a 3.6 per cent drop last year. Local manufacturers were worst hit, with sales down 14.5 per cent to their lowest level since 1980. As layoffs mounted, the government last November announced a stimulus package aimed at making the industry more economically and environmentally sustainable. Indian car sales posted their biggest annual fall in eight years in November, highlighting the downturn in Asia’s third-biggest economy which has seen automakers race to cut prices to lure buyers. ‘This year there will be a decline in sales, fiscal ‘09 has been a bad year,’ said a Mumbai auto analyst. The industry also took a hit last October when Tata Group abandoned a plant in West Bengal that was meant to produce the world’s cheapest car, the Nano, after violent protests by farmers whose land had been seized. In China, authorities in January issued a stimulus package for the nation’s auto sector, including a tax cut, after growth in the industry slowed to 6.7 per cent last year, the lowest level in a decade. But analysts there are pessimistic about the prospects of quickly reviving the sector to a pace set in previous years, which saw expansion of 21.8 per cent in 2007. In Malaysia, Southeast Asia’s biggest passenger car market and home to the Proton national car, vehicle sales are tipped to fall 12.4 per cent in 2009 after 12.5 per cent growth in 2008. In Thailand, domestic auto sales are expected to dip more than 15 per cent in 2009 while exports could slump by 26.6 per cent. Toyota, Honda and General Motors have factories in the kingdom, and the industry accounts for about 16 per cent of GDP. Despite the gloom, the worst of the fallout is expected to be over by the end of the year, when the players who have survived the crisis can expect to begin a modest recovery. ‘Motor ownership levels in most of the emerging Asian countries are low so there is still some scope for seeing growth resuming in 2010,’ said Intelligence Automotive Asia’s Chotai. ‘I’m expecting just over 5.3 per cent growth in all Asian demand in 2010, but that is still way below 2007 levels.’ Vaidya, from Frost & Sullivan, said that low-cost and increasingly high-quality manufacturers in China, India and Southeast Asia could benefit as auto-making shifts away from high-cost centres. ‘In the long term, production is moving towards Asia and that will accelerate in the economic downturn because companies in the US and Europe will be forced to close down factories there but will need production anyway.’ ‘There are clouds but there is a thick silver lining around it.... Asian players will actually benefit,’ he said.

Dubbed " Cadillac One', but affectionately known as the Obamamobile, and also called the 'the Beast', the limousine made by General Motors will travel with the President wherever he goes. It is packed with electronic communications systems to allow Mr. Obama to keep in contact with the outside world. For some easy listening, he also has a remote-controlled 10-CD changer on which he can play his favourite artists like Stevie Wonder and Bob Dylan.

It's official call sign is Cadillac One, but it will always be known as the Obamobile.
This is the top - security armoured limousine which has been custom built to be Barack Obama's presidential car.
It will travel with him wherever in the world he goes.
The President- elect, pictured inset, will have his first ride in the stretch limo when he parades along Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington after his inauguration on January 20.
But his Secret Service agents have already been familiarising themselves with the machine they call 'The Beast', built by General Motors in Detroit and based on a Cadillac chassis.
The company refuses to give precise details of how it will perform its primary purpose - protecting the president.
But bulletproof glass and armourplatingare standard throughout and the car is hermetically-sealed to withstand chemical weapons.
As with previous presidential limos it is packed with electronic communication systems to allow Mr Obama to keep in contact with the outside world.
One personal touch will be the remote-controlled ten-CD changer on which he can play his favourite artists, said to include Stevie Wonder and Bob Dylan.
Despite the protection afforded by Cadillac One, the Secret Service will be taking no chances when Mr Obama is sworn in as the 44th president.
A three-mile security perimeter will be thrown around the U.S. capital, with no vehicles allowed inside, to prevent a car bomb attack.
The expected two million visitors have been told to be in place at least three hours before the swearingin ceremony begins.
In his first major speech since his election triumph, Mr Obama warned last night that the U.S. could be mired in recession for years if his plan for a £515billion rescue package is delayed too long.
He had been hoping to sign it into law on his first day, but it has been the subject of prolonged wrangling in Congress.

Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Teh Hong Piow, Founder and Chairman of Public Bank was born, according to the Chinese Lunar Calendar with its 12-year cycle of animal symbols- in the Year of the Horse. He was prove a veritable throughbred.

Off-Peak Car Scheme

Introduction
The Off-Peak Car (OPC) Scheme was implemented on 1st October 1994 to replace the Weekend Car (WEC) Scheme. The OPC Scheme offers new and existing car owners the option to save on upfront car registration and road taxes in retur for less usage on the cars.

Tax Concessions
Cars that are registered under the OPC Scheme will enjoy:-
1. An upfront rebate of up to $17,000 on the Quota Premium (QP) for the Certificate of Entitlement (COE) and the Additional Registration Fee (ARF). (The rebate is first offset against the COE premium payable, and any excess is then offset against the ARF payable)

2. A flat discount of $800 on annual road tax, subject to a minimum road tax payment of %50 per year.

Non-Restricted Hours
You do not need to display a supplementary licence if the OPC is driven on Sundays, public holidays and during the following non-restricted hours:

Weekdays: 7.00pm to 7.00am
Saturdays & Eve of the 5 Public Holidays: 3.00pm onwards

*New Year, Lunar New Year, Hari Raya Puasa, Deepavali and Christmas

Licence For Use During Restricted Hours
If you wish to use your OPC during the restricted hours, you will need to display a valid $20 supplementary license.

Using an invalid or a tampered supplementary licence on an OPC are serious offences.

How do i Register My New Car Under The OPC Scheme?

Step 1
Secure a COE under one of the following vehicle categories:-
Vehicle Categories
Category A: Cars (1,600cc and below)
Category B: Cars (1,601cc and above)
Category E: Open (for any type of vehicles)

Step 2 (Optional)
Bid for a car registration number.

Step 3
Register your car with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) at 10 Sin Ming Drive Singapore 575701. Usually, motor car dealers will register the car for you. Please remember to tell your car dealer that you wish to register your car under the OPC scheme and if you have bid for a car registration number for the car.

Step 4
Your car dealer will arrange to have the OPC number plate sealed at any of the authorised inspection centres. The background color of your number plate will be red with white letterings to distingush it from a normal car.

LTA will send a notification letter together with the vehicle's road tax disc, to the registered address of the vehicle owner.

How Do I Re-Register My Normal Car / OPC As An OPC/Normal Car?
Step 1
Submit the following to the LTA:-
Original road tax disc
Original periodic inspection certificate (if applicable)
Original certificate for motor insurance, covering the full period of road tax
Original NRIC (for Singaporean, Singapore Permanent Resident & Malaysian) or passport (for foreigner other than Malaysian) for indivdual owner. If the owner is a company or a business, the original NIRC (for Singaporean, Singapore Permanent Resident & Malaysian) or passport (for foreigner other than Malaysian) of the authorised person from the company or business must be presented;

Original NRIC (for Singaporean, Singapore Permanent Resident & Malaysian) or passport (for foreigner other than Malaysian) for authorised representative if the registered vehicle owner / authorised person is not present at the time of application

Payment for the fees and taxes listed below:
a) OPC re-registered as Normal Car:
i) Conversion fee of $100;
ii) New road tax for your re-registered normal car; and
iii) Top-up fee for the unused upfront rebate as follows;

Upfront rebate of $17,000/ 120 months X (120 months -number of months & days registered as an OPC at time of re-registration)

b) Normal Car re-registered as OPC;
i) Conversion fee of $100; and
ii) New road tax for your re-registered OPC

Step 2
Change the number plate to that of either normal car or OPC, whichever is applicable, within 3 calendar days from conversion. Failure to change the number plates constitutes an offence under the Road Traffic Act.

The number plates for OPC have a red background with white letters and figures,and it must be welded and sealed to the body of the car. Sealing of the number plates can be carried out at any of the authorised inspection centres listed on overleaf. Upon sealing of the number plates, the authorised inspection centre will issue an inspection certificate to the OPC owner.

If you scrap or export your OPC before it reaches 10 years old and it meets the other requisite conditions(1). the PAFR rebate is as stated below or percentage of what you had actually paid as Additional Registration Fee (ARF) at the time of its registration,whichever is lower.

COE Rebate For An OPC
A. For OPC De-registered After 2 years of Registration

If an OPC is de-registered before its COE expires, the registered owner may be granted a rebate on the Quota Premium (QP) which he had paid (i.e. less the OPC upfront rebate of up to $17,000), pro-rated to the number of months and days remaining on his vehicle's COE.

The rebate for a vehicle registerd using an "Open" Category COE will be based on the net (i.e. less the OPC upfront rebate) QP paid for the "Open" Category or its corresponding category from the same COE tender exercise, whichever is lower.

B. For OPCs De-registered Within 2 years of Registration for Purpose of Export

The COE rebate will be capped at 80% of the net (i.e. less than the OPC upfront rebate) QP paid at registration. If the vehicle was registed using "Open" Category COE, the COE rebate will also be capped at 80% of the net (i.e. less the OPC upfront rebate) QP paid for the "Open" Category or its corresponding category from the same COE tender exercise whichever is lower.

How do i renew the COE of my OPC?
To renew the COE of your OPC, pay the Prevailing Quota Premium (PQP) of the apporiate normal car category. Your vehicle will remain as an OPC after COE renewal.

2009 Mercedes-Benz SLR Stirling Moss

Paying tribute to the racing living legend 79 years old Sir Stirling who travels the world for motoring related events with his wife Lady Susie.The SLR is touted to be the purist concept vehicle which looks like a road racer - apart from the two small screens on the cowl. There are no windshield, roof or side windows. The air scoops behind the driver and passenger conceal the rollover bars.

What's most impressive about this car is that it possess many similar traits from the original 1955 300 SLR. The double-bubble headlamps are replaced with single ovoid units, which - along with exhausts exiting through fender vents and stylish rollover bars - are fairly faithful to the original racer. So too is the spartan interior, which eschews techno-baubles like an audio system and navigation in favor for aluminum accents and plaid seat inserts.

Extensive engineering work ensures that the SLR lose non the coupe's extreme rigidity while the overall aerodynamics are almost identical to the coupe save for a slightly smaller rear diffuser. only 75 units of the SLR will be manufacturer for collectible edition by the rich brothers in the market. The last "standard" SLR will start to roll off the line in May 2009.

One thing to note: It will be made with left-hand drive.

How does CS-II PTFE Paint Sealant work?
CS-II PTFE Paint Sealant is a multi-step application that produces 5,000 crystalline PTFE (or common known as PTFE) resin particles over one square inch which locks into the paint surface of a vehicle and seals it. When done, no waxing would be required for 18 months; neither would it be affected by external causes such as acid rain. Best results however are achieved by following up with the CS-II silicon free car wash solution, which removes foreign particles effectively while maintaining the shine created by the paint sealant. Think of it as a permanent raincoat for your beloved ride!

The environment is chockfull with chemicals that are detrimental to paintwork. Sealing the holes in the paint protects the paintwork and even makes it stronger giving some degree of protection against stone chips and minor scratches. The tough coating also blocks harmful UV radiation which may bleach the color of the car.

The advantages? Protects your vehicle's paint finish and simultaneously adds a brilliant shine which is guaranteed to last for 18 months. Maintenance is low and hassle-free - All you'd require are sponge and water! -Unlike waxing which only gives a temporary shine and protection, CS-II seals in the brilliance of the paint color, protecting it from the harmful sun rays and other elements. -This sealant has the added advantage of removing oxidation in your vehicle's paint, restoring your vehicle to a better state.

Why CS-II Sealants should only be applied by experienced professionals.

1. The CS-II PTFE Paint Sealant is designed to be chemically bonded to the paintwork. For this reason, they need to be applied directly to bare paintwork. If applied over the top of the wax, they will disintegrate and only break down as the wax evaporates.

What exactly is CS-II preservation about?

CS-II is a unique and innovative ceramic-like polymer coatings that utilize advance nanoparticles to provide maximum enhancement and protection of automotive finishes. It was this until this approaches that, all paint sealants offered at car dealer shops or detail shops have been based on modified silicone, which slowly degrades during normal driving conditions. In direct contrast, the same UV exposure that induces the oxidative decomposition of these sealants as well as loss of paint gloss actually strengthens the CS-II coatings.

With the use of CS-II on your vehicle, the paint will remain permanently insulated against any chemical attack from any kind of environmental pollutant e.g. sulfuric / nitric acids, animals and vegetables deposits (bird droppings, insect fluids and tree sap and road grime. Process flow of CS2 application

1. First. friendly staffs would use Pre-inspection checklist to do a thorough check through on what are the highlighted problems that customer's cars are facing. Any identified dent, chip marks, rain swirl marks would be noted onto the list.

2. Secondly, CS-II appointed technicians would then use the house brand CS-II shampoo and clay bar wash to remove all the dust, dirt and sand blasting laying on the surface of the exterior.

3. Next, the technicians would use masking tape to paste the side of the window visor to prevent polishing on the window surface. They would use chemical wash to remove the oxidation, fallouts and dew ax the wax remaining on the paintwork, thus stripping the car to purely only paint.

4. The vehicle would be driven under the spot light to check for any lighting spots for any available swirl marks to ensure every area of the car is covered.

5. Thirdly, the technicians would remove all the visible swirl marks, hairline scratches or stain found on the body paint.

6. The technicians would polish with house-owned USA equipments equipments to perfect the condition with shine.

7. Fifth, the car's exterior would be sealed the paint with a layer of the PTFE Teflon coating to seal in the pores of the car exterior.

8. For double protection, the car's exterior would be also sealed in with additional solution finish to the surface of the paint sealant to reflect the gloss shining nature.

9. In the preliminary stage, The tyre rims would be wiped with tyre shine solution and ensured that it is thorough clean through with interior vacuuming in the car.

10. There would be a final QC check known as the "Auto Detailing QC check list" check by the staff to ensure that everything is completely accomplished. Please have a read through to see what the areas that are covered.

11. Lastly, the staff would use the gloss meter to track the Gloss unit (GU) of your car. Please note that the gloss unit's reading is dependent on the batch colors of your car's body. For example, the gloss meter reacts different readings of the black. FIY, there are many different types of black in the market (Dependent on the car model e.g. Honda and BMW's black are different), so the gloss unit always reflect a different reading.

12. After every CS-II service, we would present you with a warranty card with either a 18 months warranty or 24 months status dependent on the age and condition of your car. Each warranty card comes with a unique batch of serial numbers to track the indivdual CS-II done.

13. An after care kit would be presented to you: Inside the bundle you will find -Warranty brochure for your understanding on CS-II usage.

How does the gloss unit gives the reading?

It works in such a way that the light beam inside the meter converge in a 60 degree manner to show the measuring number (indicator) on the readings. It must be placed on a flat surface to ensure an accurate reading check.

Our friendly staff would use the unit to get 3 different readings from your car.
1. Front bonnet area
2. The roof top area
3. The back boot

The highest recorded measurement would be used as the recorded gloss unit check. The first reading: Before any check, the gloss meter is also calibrated at a 105 GU unit as a standard for checking purpose.

Instruction on how to use the after-care kit CS-II is a non-foaming product that maintains the car paintwork with regular use. This should be applied after washing the car. CS-II Preservation leaves a tough antistatic Protective coating in one operation.

-Shake well before use.
-Apply when the car is still wet.
-Dilute 2 capful of the preservation to 1 liter (Approximately one pail) of water.
-Apply solution to all exterior paint work of your car.
-Wipe-dry with the same application cloth.
-Do use the Micro-fiber towel for a final touch finishing.
-Within the next 3 days, don't wash your car coated with sealant application.
-After 3 days later, you may wash with with shampoo solution with the application of the preservation system.

FAQ session

Why should I use PPS for my car?

The reason is very simple, let's just trace back to the process flow of the car from being manufactured to your eventual hand as a customer. Cars > Manufactured in Thailand or Japan or European countries > Normally shipped by large carriers in containers > Transportation mode by sea are more cheaper than airfreight > Sea water contains highly concentrated salt content in the vapor > The vehicles in the container are highly exposed to the sea content vapor for a long period of time before it reached the mainland > The salt content has been attacking the exterior of your car's paint for a long exposed period of time > The attacked "wound" on the car is constantly being attached. > Question: Dealers who sold you your car, do you think they bother to do a good polishing job and maintainance of your car? > When you are handled over the new car, it's crazy not to do PPS because your major part of your investment is spent and not taking care of it, doesn't make sense at all > The PPS is necessary to act as a strengthening agent on your car's exterior to prevent it from further damage to the previous "wound" from the concentrated sea water content inside the air.

How long does it take for the sealant to dry off?

The sealant process would take at least 4 hours time to cool down and stablish itself. While cleaning on the car, why do I apply water onto the microfiber cloth? It's necessary to apply water onto the microfiber cloth, because the water on the cloth will act as a lubricant to reduce friction in between the surface of your car's exterior and the applying microfiber cloth. At the same time, if the cloth is not being wet with water, the cloth's nature might cause hairline scratches onto the car's exterior. Experience tells us that dry cloth to wipe on the surface is highly not advisable. Some dampening of water will really help. Why do you need to use the microfiber cloth instead of the normal cloth? The microfiber cloth is a special type of cloth that can absorb 7 times its weight of liquid. It has a super absorbent nature and at the same time a non abrasive application to the surface integrity. It is lint free, leaving no residue or debris behind. The wash ability cycle can last up to hundreds of wash, so it's really worth for just a $5 investment, or a set of 4 pieces at $20. The cloth size is larger than the usual blue cloth.
Is it advisable to come in during rainy seasons? Actually, it's not advisable to come on rainy seasons, because our sealant is made up of bonding agents and they need time to stabiles and settle down on the car's exterior paint. The rain containing many mixture of environmental impurities would cause chemical reaction within the bonding agents found in the sealant solution.

After doing the CS-II, if rain comes, what should I do?

Since we all know that rain is unavoidable, it is recommended that customers use the microfiber cloth to wipe the surface of your car's exterior with clean water to rinse away the dirty substance trapped in the rain water.

While applying the CS-II, what should I watch out for?

It's really recommended that customers do not use the CS-II application on the windscreens of your vehicle. Reason: The application is a highly concentrated solution, if you apply it on the windscreen, when it is hardened and cooled down; your wiper would had a problem to function itself. It would become a headache for you. Try not to apply it on the headlight and the windscreens on the four sides of your car including the back. Let's say if you apply on the roof of your car and the water dripped from the top to the bottom, what can the owner do? Well, simple, as the instruction given to you is, pour 2 capful of solution and mix with 1 liter of water. Because, when you mix with the water, it becomes highly diluted, so it doesn't matter, even if the water drips from the top to your windscreen. How?

Advise: Do your roof-top first before you handle other areas, so when the solution drips, just wipe it off and then wash later with the shampoo solution. I think on the side application, it should be more easier as you have more control power. Problem solved!!!

How much is the aftercare CS-II maintenance charges?

If you feel that your car glossiness level have dropped above 10%, and you feel like coming back for a maintenance. Within warranty status, CS-II people would do a free touch-up service for you at no charge. But if the car glossiness is below 10%, you may have the choice of a CS-II maintenance with a fee of $30.00 for saloon car and $40.00 for Large SUV / MPV for the first month after CS-II application.

For the 2nd to 3rd month application, it would be $40.00 for saloon car and $55 for SUV / MPV / Luxury car. For the subsequent 4th, 5th month and 6th month application, for saloon car, it would be $50.00. As for large SUV / MPV, it would be $70.00.

The booking process applies the same as CS-II booking.

Caution: Do not use the application on the windscreen as it may cause smearing and fiction on your wiper that does damage to your windscreen. The following videos would show you how exactly GPS works. It is a good ground for you to explore and understand the concepts of how GPS actually tracks its positioning through the 29 satellites out in the space. 24 satellites are actually being utilised for global coverage and the rest of the 5 are actually reserved spares for backup purposes in case of any satellite's malfunction. They are based on a trilateration theory for the calculation of the related distance tracking of the main targetted point. GPS actually tracks the distance from the satellite by analysing the high frequency and low power radio signals from GPS satellite and actually calculate the time and distance from the signal travelled. Each satellite uses a very accurate clock known as the atomic clock which produces exact time coded signals. It was initally designed by the military defenses in the USA in the 1970s for tracking enemy activities and spying purposes. The GPS reciever will listen and track based on the ranges of the distance between itself and the satellite with some mathematics calculation and process code trilateration. It will also figure out the altitude and speed and direction of where you are travelling. If you are on the constant move, it will also show you the distance of how much you have travelled, the timing of how long you have travelled and the current speed and average speed travelled.

Quality of the GPS reciever is actually based on 2 things.

Many brands in the market actually reflect 3D graphical visualisation but there are certain issues that need to sort before you buy the GPS in your car.

Sensitivity
The accuracy of the atennas integrated within the GPS for recieving the radio frequency from the satellite. This is the most important aspects of the GPS because it is the core function of the GPS. If the GPS cannot work with the atenna recieving, basically the whole unit can be thrown off. As for those GPS that bundles with bluetooth, MP3 or MP4 function, they are basically draining off part of the power source from your car battery, so it is quite redundant with the extra features. The power interface of the GPS will lack due to the sharing of power currency from the Audio system added on the dashboard in your car.

Updated maps
It's important that GPS actually have updated maps in the GPS, therefor any road changes or landscape tranformation would actually be captured in the GPS system for accuracy purposes.
The whole ideas is about the group effort of mappers, trackers and programmers to work hand in hand on a daily basis so that they actually updated it for the community sake.

Adding a stop to your route
You can add one stop to your route. The nuvi gives you directions to the stop and then to your final Destination.
1. While navigationing a route, search for and select another location at which you want to stop before your final destination. Touch Go.
2. Touch Add as Via Point to stop at this location before your final destination.

Changing the Search Area
By default, the nuvi finds locations closest to your current location.
To find a location near another city or locations:
1. On the Menu page, touch Where to > Near.
2. Select a search area:
.Where I am Now: Searches for places near your current location
.A Different City: Searches for places near the city you enter.
.My Current Route.Searches for places along your current route.
.My Destination Searches for places near your current route destination.

Editing Saved Places
You can change the name, symbol or phone number of a saved place, or delete a saved place.
1. On the Menu page, touch Where to > Favourites.
2. Select the place where you want to edit.
3. Touch Edit
4. Touch the appropriate option, and make the changes.

Finding a Place by Spelling
To find a place by spelling the name:
1. On the Menu page, touch Where to > Points of Interest > Spell Name.
2. Enter letters contained in the name.
.Touch 123 to enter numbers.
.Touch the gray arrow to delete the last character entered; touch and hold the gray arrow to delete the entire entry.
3. Touch Done.
4. Select the place you want to visit.
5. Touch Go

To find a place using coordinates:
1. On the Menu page, touch Where to > Coordinates.
2. Touch Format to set the coordinates format.
3. Touch each box to change the information.
4. Enter the coordinates for your destination, and touch Next.

To find a place that you have already saved:
1. On the Menu page, touch Where to > Favourites.
2. Select a place

Saving Your Current Location
From the Map page, touch the vehicle icon. Touch Yes. Enter a name, and touch Done. The place is saved in Favourites.

Setting and Going Home
To set your home location, touch Where to > Favourites > Go Home.
To navigate home after you set your home location, touch Where to > Favourites > Go Home.
To edit your home location, touch Where to > Favourites. Select Home from the list. Then touch Edit, enter your changes, and touch Done.

Stopping Your Route
If you want to stop your current route, return to the Menu page and touch Stop.

Taking a Detour
To calculate a new route to avoid something ahead of you:
1. On the Map page, select Menu to return to the Menu page.
2. Select Detour, and the nuvi creates a new route, if possible.

1. Touch a currency button to change the currency.

3. Touch the blank rectangle under the currency rate you want to convert.
4. Enter the number. Touch Done.
5. Touch Clear to convert a different value.
To update the currency conversion rates manually, touch Update. Touch the rate you want to update. Touch the arrow to erase the current rate. Enter a new rate, and touch Done. Touch Save to fiinish. Touch Restore to use the original conversion rate.

To load items to your nuvi
1. Insert an SD card (optional) The SD card slot is on the side of the nuvi. To insert the card, press it in until it clicks.
2. Connect a USB cable. Plus the small end of the USB cable into the connector on the back of the nuvi. Connect the larger end of the USB cable to an available USB port on your computer. After you connect your nuvi to your computer. two additional drivers (volumes) appear in your computer's list of drives. One is the available storage in the nuvi's internal memory. The other is the SD card inserted into the nuvi.

Unit Converter
On the Menu page, touch Tool Kit > Unit Converter.
1. Select a type of measurement, and touch OK.
2. Touch a unit of measure that you want to change.
3. Select a unit of measure, and touch OK. Repeat, if necessary.
4. Touch the blank rectangle to enter a value.
5. Enter a value, and touch Done.
6. Touch Clear to enter another measurement.

Viewing Pictures
On the Menu page, touch Tool Kit > Picture Viewer

Trouble shooting
Delete all saved information
To delete all information that you have saved on your nuvi, turn off your nuvi. Then, while holding a finger firmly on the lower-right corner of the screen, turn on the nuvi. Continue pressing on the screen until a message appears. Follow the instructions.

Is my nuvi in USB Mass Storage Mode?
Note You need an optional USB cable accessory for this feature.
When your nuvi is in USB Mass Storage Mode, a picture of a nuvi connected to a computer is shown. Also you should see a new removable disk drive listed in My Computer or a volume icon your Mac (R) desktop.

My nuvi never gets satellite signals.
If your nuvi never gets satellite signals, take your nuvi outside, away from tall buildings and trees. Hold it still unil the signal bars in the upper-left corner of the Menu page are green.

nuvi won't connect to my computer
Note: You need an optional USB cable accessory for this feature.
1. Unplug the USB cable from your computer
2. Turn the nuvi off and then back on again.
3. Plug the USB cable into your computer. The nuvi automatically goes into USB Mass Storage Mode.
Note: The nuvi cannot communicate with Windows (R) 95, Window 98 or Window ME.

Touch Screen Not Responding
If the touch screen is not responding to your taps properly, calibrate the screen. Turn the nuvi off. Then slide and hold the Power button to the left for about 30 seconds.

Unsafe Removal of Device
Note: You need an optional USB cable accessory for this feature. To disconnect your nuvi from your Windows Computer:
1. Double click the Unplug or Eject icon in your system tray.
2. Select USB Mass Storage Device, and click Stop.
3. Select the nuvi drives, and click OK.
4. Disconnect your nuvi from your computer. To disconnect your nuvi from your Mac (R) computer.
1. Drag the volume icon into the Trash can.

About GPS Signals
Your nuvi must acquire GPS satellite signals to operate. If you are indoors, near tall buidings or trees, or in a parking garage, the nuvi might not acquire signals. Go outside to an area free from tall obstructions to use your nuvi.
When the nuvi acquires satellite signals, the signal strength bars on the Menu page are green. When it loses satellite signals, the bars turn red or hollow.

Adjusting the Volume
To adjust the volume, on the menu page, touch the Volume button.

Charging your nuvi
To charge your nuvi, plug the cable into the back of the nuvi and plug teh other end of the power cable into your vehicle. The vehicle's power may need to be on to charge your nuvi. Computer charging is throught connection of the USB cable.

Mounting with the Dashboard Disk
Use the included dashboard disk if you want to mount the sunction cup mount on your dashboard instead of your windshield.
Important: The permanent mounting adhesive is extremely difficult to remove after it is installed.
Clean and dry the dashboard where you want to place the disk.
Remove the backing from the permanent mounting adhesive on the bottom of the disk and place the disk on the dashboard
Remove the clear plastic cover from the top of the disk.
Place the suction cup mount on top of the disk.
Flip the suction lever down to secure the suction cup mount to the disk.

Mounting your nuvi
Press the bottom of the nuvi into the cradle and snap the top of the nuvi into place.
Fit the ball on the end of the amount into the round socket on the cradle.
3. Press together until it snaps firmly in place.
4. Plug the power cable into the back of the nuvi. Plug the other end into a power receptacle in your vehicle.
5. Clean and dry your windshield and the suction cup with a lint free cloth.
6. Place the suction cup on the windshield.
7. Flip the lever back, towards the windshield.

If the item matched the customer's needs or expectations, a match is made. I would then contact the car owner about the price to see if a deal could be made. If the price is too high, a negotiation is allowed subjected to the seller's will. The negotiated price must be within a logical pricing value. For e.g. If the item is selling at $10.00. It is very unreasonable to ask for a price at $5.00. Such transaction would be discouraged.

Deal
If the price matches the owner's needs, a deal is made. I would then try to get the supply asap. The car owner is encouraged to check with me on the stock availability because, the item listed may or may not be available for selling as the stocks listed are in limited quantity.

You may either contact me via Sms or email. This would be easier for me to do track record for your requirements. Thanks.

The transaction carried out would be cash on delivery.

Friend's corner
This service is specially targetted at car owners who have interesting car items or toys to sell. It could be vouchers or anything that is valueable, but only subjected to car category. Notice and precaution for all car owners on the road

I have observed that Traffic police has been on the prowl on the road very frequently. My notice to all drivers is that, please take note of the following points which i have highlighted and used it as a notice for your driving caution especially this coming Christmas and New Year festive season.

Illegal installation of solar films: Darker than LTA compliance.
Do note that the LTA compliance of the solar films installation for front windscreen is 70% VLT
For rear windscreen is 25% for (VLT). Anything above the VLT is considered illegal and maybe subjected to Traffic police booking and charges.
(VLT)- Simply means visible light transmittance, which means that the other party looking from outside to the inside of the car, must have at least certain light transmittance through the windscreen panel.

Wear a bluetooth earphone
Anyone caught using a handphone set without proper handling would be stopped by the Traffic police. They need to use a bluetooth earpiece while driving the vehicle in constant motion. The handphone set is only allowed for stationary car not in motion.

Illegal fog light or headlamps
At night, it is important to note that headlamps or fog lights used for most vehicle cannot exceed 4000K in brightness, which also means that if your fog light or headlamp will cause temporary blindness to the driver driving in front of your car while he looks at his rear mirror. It is advisable that the headlamp or fog light that you install are LTA compliance to avoid unnecessary hassle.

Transfer of Vehicle

Step 1
The current registered owner and the buyer must complete a transfer of vehicle application form and submit it together with the documents required for transfer of vehicle.

Step 2
Pay the following fees:
1. Transfer Fee: $3 for motorcycles and scooters $10 for all other vehicles

2. Additional Transfer fee:
2% of the value of the vehicle, subject to a minimum fee of $5 in the case of a motorcycle and $20 in the case of all other vehicles. The value of the vehicle will be determined by the Registrar of Vehicles at the point of transfer of vehicle.

3. Additional Levy: Vehicles registered using COE from Category A and Category B are only allowed to apply for a transfer of vehicle after the first 3 months from the date of registration.

An additional levy (AL) is payable for transfers made within the next 3 months ban; the additional levy is the positive difference between the quota premium of the relevant car quota premium of the relevant car quota category at the point of transfer, and the quota premium paid for the registration of the car.

In your lifetime, you should have owned at least one vehicle in your lifetime. Be it a sport car of your own, your own truck, your own motorcycle or even aircraft. They are the source of your own personal pride. The importance of protecting the surface integrity is very important, because basically, you are paying for a big premium ticket item once in your lifetime. The discipline in your own maintenance is important because there are many corrosive substance trapped in the air. If we don't keep a proper regular washing or preserving the car paint of your car. The car paint will fade and lose it's attractiveness for a long period of time.

In search for the navigation for the various products, they are called waxes, polishes, sealants or simply paint care treatments, keep in mind that that main cosmetic problem that caused your vehicle to fade so easily is due to its oxidation. Oxidation is first initated by UV rays, and then is propagated by the interaction between oxygen, along with environmental pollutants, and the organic materials that makes up your vehicle's paint and clear coat. This also means that the cleaner your vehicle remains the greater is in the surface integrity, and ultimately is it's face value.

Most family of non-silicone based resins that utilize the latest advances in nanoparticle technology to form protective, glossy layers of ceramic like matrices on vehicle finishes, including; paint (clear coat), glass (windows and windshields), plastic (automotive trim, light lenses, paneling, bumpers and aircraft windscreens), rubber (tire sidewalls) and metals (aluminum and chrome wheel wells, aircraft "brightwork") These proprietary ingredients include ceramic polymers that cross-link and covalently bond to advanced nanoparticle technology, selected specifically for the surface material to be enhanced, protected and preserved.

The family of surface treatment products is the latest standards in the vehicle. (auto, aviation and marine) care and maintenance industry. The gloss and protection that most paint protection coating imparts is far beyond that of ordinary car, aircraft, or boat waxes, polishes or sealants. Indeed, a record of producing superior results for car, truck, motorcycle, boat and aircraft owners places the solution in the realm of surface coatings, making it the ultimate source for vehicle enhancement, care and cleanliness.

Ceramic Polymer
Most paint coatings form a genuine polymeric film of specially modified nanoparticles with adhesion to the surface supported at molecular level. Instead of resting on the pores of the surface. They form molecular attractions between atoms of the coating resins / particle matrix and those of the surface material. Within minutes a chemical bond is formed that fills in the porous voids of the paint exterior. This greatly increases the physical properties of the paint finish, enhancing it with a deep rich gloss that is protected by a ceramic-like membrane for years.

Wax-based products have no film forming abilities and will oxidize upon exposure to UV. In addition, waxes require solvents to etch into the paint to secure adhesion. The result is often a permanent marring of the finish as seen when the wax is removed.

Hydrophobic Nanoparticles
In addition to unparallel protection, the ceramic like polymer of most paint protection also retains long-term release properties and a high-angle of contact-the angle generated by a liquid bead resting on the surface. For example, water on the coatings will bead to form an angle of 110 while on the uncoated surface the angle of contact may be 80. A nearly self-cleaning surface is created, that usually only requires water and a microfiber cloth needed to maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle.

Hydrophobic Soft Plastic Particulates
PTFE / Telfon in any vehicle wax or polish comes in the form of a powder or particulate suspended in water and functions primarily as an aid in the application ( post-buffing) of the product. By the very nature of its chemistry, PTFE is non-reactive. It can only be held in place by means of entrapment with organic binders that eventually oxidize. Since it is easily abraded from the surface once the protective layer is removed. Therefore, PTFE / Telfon only temporarily adds to the protective and release properties of the product before it is lost to the environment.

Complete Chemical Inertness
By chemically adhering to the finish while maintaining even greater ineternal bonding properties, the resins and the matrices they form with nanoparticles will not breakdown or migrate from the surface. That's because these linkages and their internal forces are maintained in a 3 - dimensional polymeric matrix, unlike the weaker 2 - dimensional silicone arrangement. The result is a ceramic-like membrane of protection and enhancement that seals out all oxidative elements while sealing in a deep-gloss shine for years. In addition, the incredible depth of gloss and layer of ceramic like protection of most paint protection coating is totally unaffected by all types of acidic and alkaline materials, from acid rain, tree sap, and bug guts to road salt and bird droppings.

Chemically / UV Degrading
Silicone based products are made up of small pre-polymers of silicone that are co-reacted with organic materials to form polymeric films linking together many of these units or "mers" to create " polymers." Yet, once the organic binders are oxidized, the silicone backbone decomposes at the surface leaving an inorganic siliceous (silicate-like) residue.
If the film undergoes premature breakdown due to exposure to moderately alkaline materials like some kinds of road grime (with a ph of 9 or greater) or more acidic pollutants like acid rain (ph of 3 or lower) , the silicone resins will migrate from the finish making for incomplete protection and difficult removal. Regardless of how well maintained or how often the surface is cleaned, eventually the organic binder will oxidize due to UV exposure. Hence the need for periodic reapplications.

Molecular / Anatomic Bonding
The chemical bonds that hold coatings together and to the surface are called " covalent bonds", the stronger type of bond. In addition, further bonding strength is derived from the forces of attraction provided by incorporated nanoscale chemistries. It is this superior bonding strength that allows paint protection coating to provide a lifetime of protection and enhancement for some applications like that on vehicle paint finishes.

Ionic and Static Charge Attractions
Non-polymer, non-organic type products usually exist as crystalline structures (e.g. salts or silicates) and are held together and crystallize on the surface by ionic bonding forces, a weaker type of bond. While initially capable of maintaining continous films, these forces are not strong enough to prevent re-crystallization of the silicate upon exposure to water and moisture. Hence any protection afforded is a result of the silicate salt blooming to the surface of the polish before it si abraded from the paint finish.

Basically the paintwork is like your face, it creates the first impression of what others view of you. For example, you need to meet your clients, and yet your car doesn't seem to be as impressive as what your client might have thought of. I always advice my customers that, how your car is groomed, really reflects what kind of mentality you are yourself. If you car is well taken care of, it also shows your personal attitude and discipline. At the same time, the paintwork of your car is like your face, it will be blemished if it is not cleansed and treated thoroughly regularly.

For a long period of time, we have always thought that waxing is the long term solution for protection of your car, but however, due to the latest research, waxing has shown that it does not really last as long as it seemed to be. Understanding Solar Films and Window Films

Solar radiation is a form of electromagnetic radiation. All such forms of energy can be expressed as a wavelength. The electromagnetic spectrum of solar energy as it bombards the earth is split into 3 bands by wavelengths; the ultraviolet (UV) band, the visible band and the near infrared band.

The UV band (100-400 nanometers) is the part of the spectrum that causes fading in our interior furnishings, carpets and draperies. It also tans the skin and can cause medical problems like skin cancer if exposure is excessive. The UV band makes up 3% of the solar spectrum.

The visible band (380-780 nanometers) is the only part of the solar spectrum actually seen with our eyes, perceived as visible light. Solar intensity is the strongest in the visible band and peaks in the green wavelength-the color of most things on earth. 44% of solar energy is visible light.

The near infrared (700-2400 nanometers) part of the spectrum is the heat band. It cannot be seen but we experience it as heat. 53% of the solar energy is near infrared.

Another band, the far infrared, is a tiny section beyond the near infrared region. While solar energy does not contain far infrared, you can feel it as heat that is re-radiated from objects exposed to sunlight. Windows, furnishings and even our skin will give off far infrared heat after absorbing solar energy.

The sun's energy is necessary for life on earth. However, the same energy causes problems like overheated living space like the inside of our homes and our car interiors. It also causes glare, fading and high utility costs. Professionally installed high quality window film goes a long way in solving these problems.

Definitions for Solar Engineering Parameters
Total Solar Transmission
The percentage of incident solar radiation to be directly passed through a glazing system.

Total Solar Reflectance
The percentage of incident solar radiation to be reflected by a glazing system.

Total Solar Absorption
The percentage of incident solar radiation to be absorbed by a glazing system.

Visible Light Transmission
The percentage of visible light to be reflected by a glazing system that can be seen visually.

U-Value
The measurement of heat transfer due to outdoor / indoor temperature differences; describing the dealt loss through a material. The lower the U-value, the less heat transfers.

Ultraviolet Transmission
The percentage of the total ultraviolet radiation that passed through a glazing system.

Shading Coefficient
The ratio of solar heat gain passing through a glazing system to the solar heat gain that occur under the same conditions if the window were made of clear, un-shaded double strength window glass. The lower the numbers the better the solar shading qualities of the glazing system.

Emissivity
The measurement of the surface's ability to absorb or reflect far-infrared radiation. The lower the number the higher the far-infrared refection.

Total Solar Energy Rejected
The measurement of the window film's ability to reject solar heat in the form of visible light and invisible infrared radiation.

How Solar Films are made

Introduction to Film Dyeing
Film dyeing is similar to coating in that the film is first coated and then cured in heated ovens. The pigments are impregnated into the polyester film with heat. The film is bathed in dye and then subjected to the elevated temperatures of massive curing ovens. The colour becomes a permanent part of the film and cannot be washed or scraped off. Dyed films are used in both the automotive and flat glass markets. They help minimize reflectivity and provide decorative choice. Dyed films are often used in conjunction with metallized films offering the benefits of both types. The Dyed / Electron Beam and Dyed /Sputter combinations have been the greatest improvement in automotive films in many years. Films are dyed to exacting specifications and are subjected to intensive quality control at all stages of production guaranteeing precision colour and transparency.

Introduction to Vacuum Metallizing
The metallizing industry began in the early 1900s from attempts to improve on the electroplating process. The first applications of metallizing webs, either films or cloth were for decorative packaging. The sputtering method of application were discovered in the late 1800s but only developed and utilised for the production of metallized films in the early 1930s. The currently common aluminum evaporative coating was developed a little later (the late 1930'). The aluminum coatings were first used in solar control window films because of their extremely high solar control abilities. Technological advances in sputter benefits of high visibility and improved weatherability, while maintaining excellent solar energy control. Window films which control metallized coatings provide the greatest solar heat reduction available.

Aluminium Evaporative Metallizing
This was the first metallizing process used in solar control films. A crucible containing aluminum is heated until the metal melts and forms a gas cloud. This metal gas is deposited on the film and bonds as soon as it cools. Evaporative coated is limited by the few metals which can be coated in this manner because the crucible must be heated and maintained at a very high temperature. Aluminum coated films provided exceptional solar control performance. This process is normally used for High Performance Films.

Electron Beam Metallizing
This method of metallizing is similar to evaporative coating in many ways. The main difference is the manner in which the metal is heated and transformed into metal vapor. A beam of high energy electrons is aimed at the source of metal. This energy causes the molecules to vaporize and form a cloud of metal gas. The metal gas bond to the film as it cools. The temperatures obtained on the surface of the metal during this process are much higher than the other methods of coating. Many exotic and precious metals can be coated in this manner. Electrons beam films have higher water vapor transmission rates than sputter coated films. This allows the film to dry much more quickly, especially in high humidity areas. Benefits of electron beam films include high light transmission, low visible light reflection, high solar heat rejection and reduced "hazing" or "fogging" during the curing period that often occurs with sputter coated films.

Sputter Metallizing
Sputter metallizing has brought space age technology to the solar control market. This advanced method of coating uses exotic metals which cannot be evaporative coated. In the sputtering process, an electrically charged gas (usually argon) bombards the metal and knocks molecules loose. These molecules are deposited onto the film and layered side by side providing extremely thin, tight and optically precise coatings. The coating is so tight that the water used during installation of the window films cannot evaporate and thus giving the "hazy" look during the curing period. This "hazy" look will gradually dissipate and give way to a beautiful film. High light transmission, very low visible reflectivity and impressive solar heat control are the trademarks of sputter films.

Corrosion Protected Silver
One window film with superior performance is our Corrosion Protected Silver. This is a sputtered film with a layer of precious metal silver, encapsulated between 2 layers of a proprietary super alloy to protect it from corrosion. Silver is the best material available for reflecting infrared energy. The special super alloy that protects the silver actually helps to decrease the visible light reflectivity of the silver.

While the superior adhesion of this structure will contribute to a slightly longer drying time and the subsequent haze associated with this drying phase. Like other sputtered films, the haze will gradually dissipate revealing a beautiful film with superior performance characteristics.

Things to note for solar films back windscreen installation
Due to my observation, it is important that car owners are to take note of the back windscreen installation of the solar films. If there are any previous solar films installed, the de-mist system has to be carefully noted when tearing off the old solar films. I actually witnessed one customer's car de-mist system being left with small patches of torn off condition. Please refer to the picture shown below: The de-mist system is used as a heat up system to clear off the morning fog or mist condensed on the surface of the windscreen. This happens when the interior room temperature is cooler than the air. This theory is actually learnt during our primary school physics science where life experience actually happens.
Bad workmanship will result the de-mist system not able to run the current effectively, thus losing it's function. The original OEM de-mist system would have to be installed dependent on the car model's windscreen which can easily cost $1300 onwards.

The car's chassis number would be used as a good referencing point for checking a particular car's exact model, e.g. OEM version.

Installation for car care accessories
Currently at the moment, some of the car care accessories that we are selling are not inclusive of installation charges, which means that car owners may have to to look for workshops for their personal car installation.

There are many workshops in these areas and they are actually part of a supply chain of car fixing or even spraying jobs and etc. Customers just need to pay a nominal fee of around $5-$20 for the fixing job, the main thing is to compare the prices around and learn from the installation process. So next time, you wouldn't have any trouble fixing your own accessories. Of course, this is an open option for you, if you have the spending power. :)

Facts about Air-conditioner Filter

1. Most cars nowadays have an air-con filter (cabin filter) that cleanses the air which goes through the ventilation system. The ventilation system will help to improve the air condition through the paper filtration. In this way, the air we breathe in would be healthier.

2. Air-conditioner filters don’t usually get changed by those car garages, especially the older car models.

3. Air-conditioner filters lose their efficiencies after a while. Their state condition would be blockage and buckle. Normally they will result in the following:

o Dusty air would be trapped, often picking up dust from the filter itself (dust re-entrainment)

o Restrict airflow for ventilation and cooling
o Make demisting very slow
o Damage the fan through overwork and dust in bearings
o Making the air smell.

The activated carbon filters that we are selling are an upgrade from the standard filters that you normally see on the market as they are able to entrap most unwanted smell and harmful gases detrimental to the human body in the long run.

The air contains a lot of impurities, therefore, it's important that we need filtered fresh air for our healthy lungs to absorb. For instance, people having asthmatics problem tend to be more vulnerable to the air they take in. For young children, the worst that can happen to them would be hay fever. -In some of the toyota car models like Vios & Altis, it doesn't come with a filter nor a tray.
-This also include certain models for Mitsubishi.
-So typically, for a Toyota owner, all he needs to do is to buy a tray which would probably cost him around $21.50 from Stamford tyres.

-All you need is to get the paper from me and allocate it into the tray.
-Installation wise, they need to cut the hole.
-After the hole is out, they need to slot in the tray.
-After cutting the hole, then the filter is being slot in and secured with 2 screws.

About the bulbs
The bulbs need bulb holders, so if a car comes with a bulb holder for H7, they have to be fitted with a H7 bulb. They are actually like bulb sockets.

Compliance by LTA?
Night breaker series are compliant with LTA regulated series.
Normal bulbs are about 3600K to 3800K which are yellowish.

LTA can approve up to 4000K which is slightly yellowish.
For 5000K, the lighting effect will turn to white color.
So as the lighting luminousity goes higher, the status of the color will turn from yellow > white > bluish. For information: Bluish colour is not accepted by the LTA regulation.

K stands for kelvin in terms of measurement of brightness found in the light bulbs.
